Prahlad Griffith

Executive Director, Mridanga and Harmonium Instructor

Born in Dallas, TX, Prahlad moved to India at the age of 5, where he spent 17 years studying in Gurukula. He later spent time touring India and the globe, performing and honing his skills and developing his understanding of Kirtan. Based in Alachua, Florida, he acts as the administrator of Kirtan Studios, taking care of the technical aspects of its operation, as well as teaching students on all levels.

His passions are studying philosophy, kirtan, and physical education.

Mridanga Background

During his years of study in West Bengal, Prahlad learned the arts of Kirtan and Mridanga from Master Radha Govinda Pal Mahasay. Radha Govinda Pal Mahasay was born into a family of Kirtaniyas that have been practicing this ancient art for many generations, and he is one of India’s most respected teachers of traditional Mridanga and Kirtan.

Harmonium Background

He also learned harmonium for 5 years under the tutelage of Deepranjan Sarkar (a highly accomplished harmonium player in the district), and Master Pankaj (Aindra’s and Sri Prahlad Prabhu’s teacher).

Vocal Training Background

After returning to the United States, desirous of expanding his knowledge of vocal training, Prahlad studied at the well-known Sankar Mahadevan academy. Desirous of further expanding his vocal range and knowledge of vocal training. he also studied at Brett Manning Studios, one of the world’s leading vocal Institutes, headed by Brett Manning himself.

Now based in Alachua, Florida, his knowledge and experience in Kirtan inspired him to start teaching through this project of “Kirtan Studios”. He is looking forward to making this art of Kirtan available to people anywhere in the world through online lessons.

He is also now connected with teachers in different parts of the world to make learning this beautiful tradition more accessible to everyone regardless of time zone and location.
